Welcome To Ethiopian Diaspora Website
Ethiopiandiaspora.org is a website dedicated to provide timely and relevant information to the Ethiopian community abroad. Moreover it is a website which is used to assess the skill, human and financial resources available abroad and will eventually be used to match the needs of the country with the available resources abroad.
It is believed that the website will be a major communication channel in which IOM SLO Addis Ababa is facilitating to provide information to members of Ethiopian diaspora and friends of Ethiopia who are interested to contribute for the development of their country through different means such as investment, skill and knowledge transfer and philanthropic activities. The information on the website, which will regularly be updated, can be used as an information centre and a guide. The main sections of the site are described as follows:
The “About Ethiopia” section provides you with basic information about Ethiopia.
The “About IOM” section, deals with providing basic information on the overall structure, mandate and migration and development related activities of the organization.
The “Investment” section of the website deals with discussing investment issues such as investment opportunities, incentives, investment categories, priority areas and permit application processes in Ethiopia.
The “Remittance” section discusses about the remittance situation in Ethiopia, possible channels of remitting money from abroad and its contribution to the development of the country. It also lists down list of Remittance Service Providers/RSPs/ working in collaboration with banks in Ethiopia.
The “knowledge and skill transfer” section goes on discussing how the diaspora could contribute to development of the country by the transfer of their knowledge and skill. It also provides list of universities in Ethiopia that can be communicated for further collaboration.
The “Key Requirements” section deals with elaborating basic pre requisites that needs to be fulfilled prior to engaging in any business activities in Ethiopia.
The “Ethiopian Diaspora Database” section introduces the establishment of the database which will serve as a useful tool for IOM, as well as governments, civil society and the private sector, to assess and employ the available knowledge and socio-professional resources of the Ethiopian diasporas who are willing to contribute to the development of Ethiopia.
The “Related laws” section comprises of relevant legal instruments issued by Ethiopian government which in one or other way will have impact on diaspora engagement activities.
A directory of government ministries/ offices, diaspora Associations and different regional diaspora coordinating offices which are directly or indirectly involved in areas of development can also be accessed in the “Directory” section.
